Skips are to be placed in five locations across North East Lincolnshire as the council aims to reduce fly-tipping. The Skip It scheme, launched in 2018, gives residents a chance to dispose of unwanted items including garden clippings, small electrical items, recycling and mattresses free of charge. Skips will be placed at five temporary sites in the coming months - with the first at Duke of York Gardens, Corporation Road, Grimsby on Tuesday 6 October.
Councillor Darren Mayne, North East Lincolnshire Council's portfolio holder for waste, recycling and energy, said: "It gives everyone a chance to dispose of their unwanted rubbish without it ending up as fly-tipping." Each site will be open between 08:30 and 15:00 and will include two large skips, two vans for white goods, mattresses and furniture and a vehicle for garden waste. Residents can walk on to the site with their waste or bring it in a car or van. Trade vans or trade waste will not be accepted.
Mayne said: "Everyone has a responsibility to get rid of their waste suitably and we're hoping this can go some way to helping that. "It's important people respect the rules of the site and only bring waste that will be accepted on the day." The council said some waste would not be accepted, including asbestos, soil, paints, oils, tyres, fuels, hazardous waste, car batteries, car parts, plasterboard, gas bottles and liquids.
